The Covid 19 Pandemic has had many people locked down and stuck at home, in addition the Covid Virus has made many popular vacation spots unavailable.

Playa del Carmen is up and operational

Playa del Carmen’s Fifth Ave is Famous for Shopping

Last year was a tough year for everybody, but the Yucatan Peninsula is now open for business.

Mexico is working hard to beat this virus and provide the most amazing, beautiful and above all safe vacation destinations in the world. They keep track of how the control of the pandemic is progressing by using what is called the Epidemiological Traffic Light or, “stop light” system.  Here is the breakdown of what this looks like:

  • Green is normal/low risk, - normal operation
  • Yellow is caution/average risk - Businesses operating at around 50% to 60% capacity
  • Orange is a bit more risk – Businesses operating at around 30 % capacity
  • Red is maximin risk and everything is closed.

To see “stop light” status updates click here:

Playa del Carmen and the rest of the Yucatan have been enjoying a condition “yellow” for some time, all signs show it will most likely stay that way.

This basically means safe fun in the sun for everyone. Everything is open such as hotels, restaurants, shops, casinos, theaters, theme parks, private tours, and most local attractions, even the Mayan Ruins are open. Beaches are open from and all other water sports including off-shore fishing are open as well.

Getting around the area will not be a problem either because public transportation is running on a normal schedule as well. The only difference is the reduced capacity of 50% per vehicle. Taxis for instance are limited to a maximum 3 seats per vehicle. Car rentals are also locally available.

The “yellow” caution is a good thing it tells everyone that extra measures are being taken to keep everyone safe and healthy, the locals and tourists alike.

Some of the ways that businesses are staying open is by implementing some of the following safety measures.

  • Masks are still required in ALL public places.
  • All employees must wear personal protective gear.
  • 2 meters of social distancing must be maintained.
  • Seating has been altered to maintain the 2-meter limit.
  • Many hotels have partnered with transportation companies who follow these protocols.

The Puerto Aventuras will live up to its name. There are adventures every where you turn and for every kind of vacation you could dream of.

Puerto Aventuras Fishing

The waters off Puerto Aventuras are known for being excellent for providing opportunities for the major pelagic fish. These are those special fish which live just beyond the continental shelf, they feed on the smaller fish. We are talking Apex Predator fish. When looking to have a good fight with a big fish you are looking for fish such as the Marlin, Sailfish, Mahi, Wahoo, and Tuna. The season will likely peak in mid summer but for now it just gets better and better!

When choosing a Playa del Carmen Fishing Charters make sure you check out Wasabi Loco Sportfishing Charters. Owned and operated by a U.S. Marine Veteran, these guys provide the best boats and crews in the area. You can visit their website at

The marina itself offers so many opportunities such as swimming with dolphins and manatees, sailing, snorkeling and scuba diving. Also, be sure to check out the areas only Shipwreck Museum.

Puerto Aventuras is twelve miles south of Playa del Carmen and easily accessible through public transportation. Or better yet, rent a car and take advantage of the many archaeological sites in the area, such as the Chichen Itza Ruins. They are on the list of the 7 wonders of the world. Coba, must be included as you will be amazed when you view Nohoch Muul pyramid, the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan Peninsula!

The Puerto Aventuras has so very much to offer from the Charter Fishing boats to the scuba diving and swimming with sea turtles, dolphins and manatees, the amazing Archaeological sites, to the natural wonders.
